CAS module replacing Webauth module

I heard from the grapevine that a project is in the works to implement CAS for ASU. This would effectively replace the webauth module that Jeff Beeman wrote. You may say, "What! The webauth module is great and I've already implemented it! There isn't even a module for CAS!!"  Hold on, there actually is a CAS module, and it's supported by the greater Drupal community: http://drupal.org/project/cas

Once ASU rolls out our CAS implementation, folks will be able to use the CAS module for their drupal site authentication.  It does everything that webauth does and more.  Currently, ASU maintains the webauth module (as we wrote it). When we move to CAS, it will save time, because Jeff wouldn't be maintaining both (he spends his freetime helping maintain the CAS module for the Drupal community).

Once CAS is rolled out, we encourage all Drupal users to migrate to this module. Webauth will still work, but if the process is changed at all, the module won't be updated so it would benefit site admins to at least take a look at CAS.  The timeline is not firmed up yet, but it is in the works.

Sounds great!  This will remove several bugs that I am finding.  What bugs?  :-)

I will update this post at a later time with them.

We're getting ready to make the move to Drupal, but we have many pages currently protected by WebAuth. Has anyone heard about a timeline for when CAS will be available here on campus?

I've sent out some emails regarding this--hopefully we'll get an answer here in the next few days.
