The new ASU Directory module is a great start. This brings other questions. I would like to use ASU Directory to replace functionality of the "Profile" module in Drupal. Any ideas? Maybe through an LDAP connection? I also would love have a field auto-fill with the directory URL of a person. Is the token module a way to go?

I think I sent you the Simple LDAP module after you posted this, but for those still looking for the answer:
I wrote a module called Simple LDAP that allows you to pull profile, group (OG) and role data from LDAP. You can checkout the Drupal 5.x version of the module via Subversion at https://svn.asu.edu/svn/drupal/modules/simple_ldap/branches/5.x
