I am a student that is designing a website for college students just like me. During my studies I have found it hard to find the help and when I needed it the most. I know that there are some of us (not me) that find some class to be easy, while the rest of us (like myself) struggle to get the grade. Would anyone be interested in having a website that would allow you to chat with other students live or have the means to have live group chat both public and private? Or how about instant-messaging with the capability to communicate one-on-one or one-to-many with the use of a downloadable desktop application that allows you to stay in contact without being on the site? Oh, here is another idea, how about those students that have passed a class with flying colors sign into the website as tutors, and they can make an income (at lease from me) in helping us students that are having a hard time with the same class? Does any of this make sense to anyone? Just think, you could write blogs to inform many of us about instructors to watch-out for, or upcoming events both public and private as things to watch for, or how about giving those the freedom to write an article and publish it for all to read. Ya-um, let us not forget, maybe we can meet new friends, or start new relationships, and just think, maybe we can build the resources we need to get our degree. I know, how about your own personel webpage within the website that describes who you are and what you like, maybe upload your pictures and music, and you can list yourself as a student or a tutor. What is your feels about these issues. I know I want it so bad – I am designing the website now with a few of my buddies that are currently experiencing much of the same. Before we complete our Website – is there a need here at ASU.. Or is it just me and my buddies that are the only dummies in class and possibly on campus? please let us know what you think..
I think it's a great idea, though it sounds like a lot of work. I like the idea because it has a clear objective, which is to help students get their college degree.
http://dimdim.com with the Moodle educational plug-in appears to have broken ground this area. check-it out, you won't be disappointed. i work here in ASU but am the creator of http://mathimage.com - so i have a few ideas on tutoring math (to begin with) through DimDim. email to me if you are interested talking about this neato subject!
